SPECIAL INTEREST LIVING EXPERIENCES
The Towers offers a number of unique living experiences that complement your academics and provide opportunities to grow and thrive through community leadership and involvement. Community involvement allows you to increase your personal network, explore your identity, try new things, support your peers, empower yourself, and positively impact your residential experience.
The RHA is the governing body of the residential community, representing all students in The Towers. RHA members gain leadership experience, plan building-wide programs, impact policy changes, and propose new amenities to enhance the residential living experience.
This floor is designed for students who prefer to live and study in a peaceful, serene environment. Respect for neighbor’s rights is a key aspect of living on this floor. All noise (television, music, talking, etc.) must be maintained at a level agreed upon by floor residents and will be in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
PALS is open to any student wishing to explore topics around gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. This Society explores linkages across personal lived experiences & theoretical concepts of gender and sexuality.
FYRE offers a unique group experience for first-year residents seeking to enhance their opportunities for success in college and to meet new people in The Towers. With a variety of sessions including class registration, talking with roommates effectively, and time management, these sessions will kick off your college career and set you up for success.
PROGRAMMING
The Residence Life staff and Residence Hall Association (RHA) host a wide variety of social and educational programs for The Towers. In addition to the Programming Series and Legacy Programs, The Towers hosts, on average, twenty or more events each month. The community is always vibrant, and residents consistently have somewhere to go to meet new friends, try new things, or just grab a quick snack with our in-house popcorn and cotton candy machines. The staff and RHA are always open to new ideas from residents about activities, food, or giveaways they want to see.
Programming Series
The Towers hosts an array of events to help students celebrate and learn more about the cultures and identities throughout New York City. From celebrating Holi, the Festival of Colors, and learning about experiences with disability, to political awareness discussions every resident has a chance to be represented and celebrated within the community.
The Towers hosts monthly service projects open to all residents interested in giving back to the community. Service projects include volunteering at a soup kitchen, cleaning up a park, and spreading awareness of various causes. If there are service opportunities you are passionate about, we are happy to collaborate with residents to expand our connections and positive impact in the community.
The SFS Series offers development of essential skills for life beyond the classroom. Examples of programming topics include money management, basic cooking, financial planning, tax preparation, and other topics that support a successful transition to life after college.
Legacy Programs
The Towers staff hosts trick-or-treaters from nearby elementary schools each year on Halloween. Interested residents can volunteer to hand out candy (provided by the staff) as RAs guide the children in their costumes around the building. This is one great way The Towers works to give back to the community with a fun event that everyone looks forward to each year.
The Residence Hall Association (RHA) has become well known for the planning and execution of their Towers Halloween program, which is a hybrid of an escape room and haunted house. Past themes include Clowns, American Horror Story, and Slender Man. Beware, RHA has outdone themselves each time and plan to continue this program for years to come.
Each Fall and Spring, the staff of The Towers chooses a week to host daily, building-wide programs to celebrate the amazing residents of The Towers. From game nights to dance parties, smoothie tastings and paint and sips, Resident Appreciation Week has something for every resident at The Towers at CCNY!
At the beginning of each semester, there is a week of community wide events in the First Floor Lounge to help welcome (back) everyone to The Towers. Past events include paint night, talent shows, and Pie Your RA.
